Am Morgen des 25. April 2015 erschütterte das schwerste Erdbeben seit 80 Jahren den Himalaya. Von ihm besonders schwer getroffen wurde Nepal, eines der ärmsten Länder der Welt. Das Epizentrum des Bebens lag nur 80 Kilometer von der Hauptstadt Kathmandu entfernt.
Vor allem im Kathmandutal mit seinen mehr als einer Million EinwohnerInnen, in umliegenden Schluchten und Tälern wurden tausende Menschen unter ihren einstürzenden Häusern begraben. Gerölllawinen rollten von den Bergen in die Täler, über Dörfer und Städte. Wohn- und Geschäftshäuser, Kliniken, aber auch historische Gebäude wurden zerstört.
Dabei verloren ersten Zählungen zufolge mehr als 7.000 Menschen ihr Leben (davon einige Dutzend auch in Indien und China), viele mehr wurden obdachlos. Insgesamt, so schätzen die Vereinten Nationen, sind mehr als acht Millionen Menschen vom Beben betroffen, 1,4 Millionen sind seitdem auf Lebensmittelhilfen angewiesen.

Help for Earthquake Victims in Nepal
Devastating earthquake of 7.9 magnitudes in Nepal has killed more then 6000 people (number is increasing) and more then 100000 people are seriously injured. United Nations claims this earthquake directly affects more then 8 million people.
As the citizen of one of the poorest country, Nepali people are not able to reconstruct lost property by their own effort. The damage has been more severe in remote mountainous regions of the country. Currently, about 90 percent of affected area’s population is living without medical treatment, food or shelter despite rain and cold. Pregnant women and children are mostly affected.
Monsoon is approaching very soon in Nepal. People won’t be able to rebuild their houses before monsoon. They must need a shelter to live for some months.
As a social organization, Society for Humanism (SOCH) Nepal has started to support needy people for shelter and food by mobilizing more then one thousand volunteers throughout nation.
